ERC Project

Project Title:

North 24th Street Streetscape Master Plan

Host Community or Region:

Nebraska

Host Organization:

North 24th Street Business District Association
The North 24th Street Business Improvement District (BID) in Omaha, Neb. is undertaking the transformation of North 24th Street, complementing the resurgence of governmental funding, entrepreneurial investment, and community engagement. Covering 2.3 miles in an area steeped in rich jazz history and significant civil rights heritage, this project focuses on upgrading sidewalks, traffic management, landscaping, parking, and multimodal transit. It aims to revitalize the built environment, fostering racial and infrastructure equity to three of Nebraska's poorest zip codes. The ERC Fellow provides project coordination, liaising with municipal partners and stakeholders to ensure phases of the Streetscape Plan are implemented effectively while maximizing economic development opportunities. The fellow will engage in research, stakeholder engagement and communication, and identify funding support. A rejuvenated North 24th Street offers an enhanced urban experience that attracts business, tourism, and community engagement. This project honors the areas’ cultural legacy and improves the physical surroundings, impacting the broader Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area.
